ASHLAND, Ore. - Ashland Police say a major drug bust at a home on the 700 block of Oak Street Wednesday netted an estimated 1,000 opium poppies.
According to a press release, police served a search warrant on the home, where they also found a marijuana grow, a psilocybin mushroom grow, and drug paraphernalia.
Two children, a six-year-old and a one-year-old, also lived in the house. They are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
The two residents, 29-year-old Jonah Shore and 24-year-old Emeth Brandov-Ysrael, are lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Shore is charged with a Probation Violation, Second Degree Child Neglect and Endangering the Welfare of Minor. Ysrael is charged with Second-Degree Child Neglect and Endangering the Welfare of Minor.
Ashland Police say the home is in a quiet neighborhood, where residents would have little reason to suspect anything illegal.
"If you didn't know any better, and you were a neighbor to somebody like this, it would look like they had a beautiful flower garden in their backyard. That's all you'd think," said Sgt. Jim Adlerman with Ashland Police.
Police say the investigation into the case is continuing and they expect to make two more arrests soon.
