49 arrested during police sweeps in Northampton's downtown Friday and Saturday nights
NORTHAMPTON – A drug and alcohol sweep by police Friday and Saturday nights yielded the arrests of nearly 50 people.
Police, over the two nights of the sweep, confiscated more than 600 “hits” of LSD, 45 grams of cocaine, two nitrous oxide tanks and more than $2,000 in cash, according to a release.
Friday night brought 24 arrests and Saturday night, 25, police said. Officers in uniforms and plain clothes participated in the sweep.
Those arrested Friday night will be arraigned in District Court on Tuesday. Those arrested Saturday night will be arraigned Thursday, police said.
Police said charges filed include: three counts of possession of the class B drug Ketamine (animal tranquilizer); 10 counts of possession of such Class B drugs as cocaine, Ecstasy and LSD; one count of trafficking cocaine (28-100 grams); 3 counts of possession of such Class C drugs as Klonopin, Xanax and hallucinogenic mushrooms; four counts of possession of such Class E drugs as Concerta, Ritalin, Adderal and Percoset.
Also: 3 counts of distribution of a toxic substance (nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas); 1 count of misuse of a liquor ID card; 10 counts of open container on city streets; 27 counts of possession of alcohol under 21.
Seven civil citations were also issued for possession of marijuana
