500 pounds of marijuana, 10 kilos of cocaine recovered in DEA raids

Federal agents found 500 pounds of marijuana and more than 10 kilograms of cocaine, along with an AK-47 and body armor, during raids on homes in Baltimore County and northeastern Baltimore as part of a cross-country drug investigation.

At least two men have been charged through a federal complaint in connection with the raids - Harold and Joseph Ibreham Byrd. Both men have had initial appearances in federal judge before a magistrate judge and are being detained; attorneys are not listed in court records.

The full scope of the investigation is not laid out in court records, which show that agents had been tracking Harold Byrd for some time using a court-authorized GPS device. On April 22, they raided a home on a 5.5-acre piece of property in the 2900 block of Merrymans Mill Road in Phoenix, where he had been seen regularly, records show.

Inside, they found five kilograms of cocaine in a master bedroom - which the Drug Enforcement Administration estimates has a wholesale value of $150,000 - and 1200 grams of marijuana, according to court records. They also found 73 shipping containers that agents wrote in court documents had been used to transport 100-pound quantities of marijuana from Arizona to Maryland.

Agents also found three handguns, an AK-47, and four sets of body armor.

Harold Byrd was not present, court documents say, because he and Joseph Byrd had been arrested earlier during a raid in the 5800 block of Moravia Rd. that resulted in the seizure of 500 pounds of marijuana.

During a raid on Joseph Byrd's home in the 9000 block of Rock Ledge Ct. in Owings Mills, authorities recovered 5.4 kilograms of cocaine from a garage, according to the records.

Police say Joseph Byrd has a history of arrests in Houston, Tx. and had a Texas ID on him. Court records show that Harold Byrd's record in Maryland consists only of a traffic ticket, but he is listed in that case as being from Houston as well.

A phone number for the Merrymans Mill address, which records indicate was being rented, was disconnected, and attempts to locate phone numbers for the two men were unsuccessful.
