9 Study Drugs Used By Students

Drugs are not just used by college students to party anymore. Various prescription drugs and unscheduled substances are being taken as study drugs to help students concentrate for extended periods of time in hopes of boosting their grades. What drugs are being used for studying? See 9 different study drugs below.

    Adderall

Adderall is easily the most famous of study drugs. Normally, Adderall is used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but the drug has been abused in party and study sessions alike. A survey of Ivy League students found that one in five admitted to using ADD and ADHD prescription drugs to enhance performance (and one-third don’t consider it cheating), reports Huffington Post.

    Ritalin

Ritalin is similar to its amphetamine cousin Adderall and is also used to treat ADD and ADHD. The study drug can also be used to help increase attention span and help students focus on their schoolwork for extended hours. According to a study from The University of Texas, 50 percent of students who have prescriptions to ADD and ADHD medication have been asked for pills from unprescribed students.

    Concerta

Concerta is another drug among the family used to manage ADD and ADHD. Like Ritalin and Adderall, it can bring about increased attention and focus, allowing students to work for grueling hours and absorb information.

    Focalin

The stimulant Focalin has similar effects at Adderall, Ritalin and Concerta, leading students to use it as a study drug.

    Vyvanse

Vyvanse is yet another stimulant that can be used to treat ADHD, making it an effective study drug.

    Modafinil

Modafinil is a newer player in the study drug scene. Modafinil is used to treat narcolepsy, a condition which causes patients to be tired throughout the day, ending with the narcoleptic falling asleep during daylight hours. Unlike drugs that treat ADD and ADHD, Modafinil is not a stimulant and instead increases blood flow to the brain. Modafinil makes the user alert for as long as 12 hours, proving a perfect study drug for a cram session. Currently, the drug is available prescription-only in the United States, but can be ordered online if you know where to look.

    Adrafinil

Adrafinil is part of the same Nootropic drug family as Modafinil. Nootropics all increase blood flow to the brain, increasing neurotransmitter activity with varying results. When metabolized, Adrafinil becomes Modafinil in the body, having similar attention-inducing effects. Currently, Adrafinil is banned in France but remain unregulated the United States. VICE reported on a web store in Portland which sells Nootropics like Adrafinil as health supplements.

    Phenylpiracetam

Phenylpiracetam is another Nootropic which reportedly increases cognitive functions such as memory and alertness. Across the net, you can find students who claim the effects help them focus and improve their memory. However, the study drug can also cause nasty headaches, which are supposedly easily remedied by taking a choline supplement. Phenylpiracetam, like Adrafinil, is unregulated in the United States and is available online. The drug is so effective that the NFL has banned it (along with other Nootropics).

    Caffeine Pills

If caffeine helps keep you focused, but a coffee isn’t cutting it, a caffeine pill can give you a more extreme boost of energy. A study from John Hopkins University discovered caffeine pills can boost long-term memory and pattern separation.

Glad to see one nootropic in this list.

Noopept is a good one too, along with Centropheoxine.

HDMP-28 could make this list as well, if more people knew about it.
  2. RoboCodeine7610
I had never heard of it. Seems quite addictive from what I read, quite similar to cocaine.

People have to understand that long term use of stimulants leads to no where. The journalist forgot cigarettes. nothing boosts your intelligence but simple learning from one's mistakes; most people don't have a knack for it
  4. Adas
It's not about boosting intelligence. It's about staying calm and maintaining focus & not getting tired all the time. Stimulants can be used responsibly in low doses, like pretty much anything else.

Also I've heard some students use benzos to help them focus and I can confirm that it helps. Not when you are tired, though.
  5. RoboCodeine7610
Benzos would most certainly be counter-productive in anyone trying to memorize or learn anything. However, if you're under extreme anxiety/stress which is interfering with your ability to study, then a low dose of benzodiazepines might be the lesser of two evils.
