Portland, OR – An Oregon man landed behind bars after his friend accidentally butt-dialed 911 during a drug deal last week.
Authorities said dispatchers received a call from 25-year-old Raleigh Reynolds’ customer during what they say was a drug deal. According to CNET, 911 operators could hear the transaction taking place thanks to the accidental butt dial.
After listening in on the butt-dialed 911 call, dispatchers sent police to the scene of the activity. Officers reportedly used GPS tracking technology to pinpoint the location of the alleged drug deal. Police found the suspects about a block away from the police station.
KGW explains that authorities found the two suspects sitting inside a parked car down a back alley. The man and woman seated in the vehicle told police they didn’t have a cell phone.
The officers who responded to the call spoke loud enough so dispatchers could hear their voice. The suspects had no idea the accidental “butt dial” to 911 had led authorities to their location.
Although drug deals are serious crimes, police spokesman Aaron Christopherson said officers got a kick out of this particular situation.
Christopherson said of the 911 butt dial:
“This, I will say, is a first, and got a chuckle around the department. They don’t make it that easy for us, usually.”
According to NBC News, Raleigh Reynolds was arrested on felony drug charges of possession and delivery. Authorities reportedly found methamphetamine after they performed a search.
Police said 25-year-old Dana Lucht is also in trouble after she accidentally butt-dialed 911 during the transaction. Lucht was cited for carrying less than an ounce of marijuana at the time of the bust. She received a summons to appear in court.
What do you think about the accidental 911 butt dial that brought Oregon police to the scene of a drug deal? Have you ever accidentally butt-dialed someone.
