GASTON AND LINCOLN COUNTY LINE, N.C. — Agents with the North Carolina Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement on Friday seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana near the Gaston and Lincoln County line.
Acting on citizen complaints, ALE agents began investigating drug trafficking at a hotel and a motel.
That investigation led agents to pull over a 2003 Chevrolet Astro van, where they said they found 110 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested the van's driver, Ninfa Hinojosa, 28, of Athens, Ga., and charged her with trafficking marijuana and felony possession of marijuana.
Agents were then led to a home at 3035 Hunters Hope Lane in Lincolnton. There agents said they conducted a search of the residence and found more than 100 pounds of marijuana.
At the house, agents arrested Jose Jesus Ramirez, Ricardo Carrillo Polanco and Modesto Marquez Medina.
Ramirez, 23, was charged with felony maintaining a dwelling to keep and sell controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit the felony of trafficking in marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and trafficking marijuana.
Polanco, 20, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking marijuana and felony maintaining a dwelling to keep and sell controlled substances.
Medina, 24, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit the felony of trafficking in marijuana, trafficking marijuana and possess with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
The estimated street value of the marijuana seized Friday is $168,000. In addition to the pot, agents seized $7,432, a 2006 Jeep Cherokee, a 2001 GMC pick-up truck and the 2003 Chevrolet Astro
