1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

The American Medical Association announced this week that it will push for regulations and warning labels on medical and recreational marijuana after studies suggest that smoking while pregnant may cause low birth weight, premature birth, and behavior problems in young children.

While such warnings exist for alcohol and tobacco products, lack of research on marijuana has not proven the drug safe to use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

There is currently no ban on pregnant women buying legal marijuana. Several states require health warnings on cannabis products, though not directed at pregnant women specifically. Oregon “is the only state that currently requires a point of sale warning at dispensaries regarding cannabis use in pregnant or breastfeeding women,” according to the AMA.

The proposed message would likely read, “Warning: Marijuana use during pregnancy and breastfeeding poses potential harms” and would be posted in the 23 states and Washington D.C., where medical marijuana products are legally sold (recreational marijuana is legal in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Colorado and D.C.).

The proposal now awaits feedback from the AMA’s lobbying agenda.
