POLICE seized more than $2 million worth of illegal substances during a major drug bust in New Providence.

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit confiscated more than 1,200 lbs of suspected marijuana and more than 400 lbs of hashish oil - a solvent extract of cannabis - from a private residence on Blake Road shortly before midnight on Friday.

Following the execution of a search warrant and the subsequent discovery of the drugs, police arrested two men, ages 29 and 52, on preliminary charges of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply. Both men are expected to appear in court early this week.
The major drug bust occurred just shortly before police seized an amount of illegal drugs at another home in New Providence.

Shortly after 11pm on Friday, officers of the Northeastern Division executed a search warrant at the Windsor Lane residence of a 20-year-old man.
During the search, police found 14 small packages of marijuana and a small amount of cash believed to be derived from the sale of dangerous drugs.

The 20-year-old man was taken into police custody.

Just last week, police seized more than $30,000 worth of illegal drugs in a big drug bust in New Providence. Officers of the special task force Rapid Strike made the bust during a routine patrol in the area of Sixth Street and Coconut Grove Avenue on Wednesday. They confiscated 32 lbs of suspected marijuana which have an estimated street value of $32,000. The two, both aged 29 years old, were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
