California Woman Arrested After 2-Year-Old Granddaughter Drinks Meth Tea

  1. Rob Cypher
Authorities in Southern California say a 51-year-old woman has been arrested after her 2-year-old granddaughter drank tea with methamphetamine in it.

A Riverside County sheriff's statement says the toddler's mother called authorities Monday saying the child had not slept and was talking rapidly, scratching and couldn't sit still.

At a hospital, it was determined she had meth in her system.

Investigators said the grandmother, Cynthia Watson, made a cup of tea the night before and put meth in it "to get herself high." The girl apparently drank it when the cup was unattended.

Watson, who was visiting from Oregon, was held on suspicion of child endangerment on $35,000 bail. She's expected in court Wednesday. It wasn't immediately known if she has a lawyer.

The toddler is expected to make a full recovery.

I wonder if she dissolved it in water or another liquid because she was traveling.

    Is that a thing?

Is this a subtle advert for ambulance chasers and the like?

Are the public defenders on strike or what?

Did her lawyer tell her he "might" represent her or tell her to "hold on a sec" when she asked?

Sounds like granny was high and tweaking on a "project" like scrubbing floors or organizing her purse for hours on end. Maybe forgot about her tea. I remember those times when I shot a lot of yellow, stinky crystal. She will get some jail/prison time out of that one. Probably more than 11mos 29 days which means off to prison for her. Unfortunate for everyone in situation. She is probably fucked with a public defender too

The toddler probably won't mess with other people's tea again. But seriously, why was it just sitting around? I wouldn't ever just leave drugs out somewhere. That's the ladies fault for sure.

IDYLLWILD, Calif. (AP) — A woman whose 2-year-old granddaughter drank methamphetamine-laced tea has pleaded guilty to child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports Cynthia Ann Watson entered the pleas Tuesday in a Riverside County court. She was sentenced to 60 days in custody, including 43 days in a work-release program.
She’s also ordered to stay away from her grandchildren.
Authorities say the 51-year-old resident of Aloha, Oregon, was visiting her family in Garner Valley — a community near Idyllwild — last month when she prepared the meth-laced tea to get high but left it unattended.
Her granddaughter drank some. The toddler tested positive for methamphetamine at a hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
