Car crash leads Amherstburg Police to 'massive drug bust'

  1. SmokeTwibz

A car that crashed while leaving a house in Amherstburg led police to what the department called “a massive drug operation.”

Just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a vehicle in the ditch of the area of Concession 8 near County Road 10 in Amherstburg.

When officers arrived, they found several pounds of suspected marijuana in the car, which landed in the ditch while backing down a driveway.

Police then got a warrant to search the home on the property.

Officers found several hundred pounds of suspected marijuana, an alleged outdoor grow operation at the rear of the rural property and what police described as "a processing plant."

A high-capacity power cable was found on the property. Police said it was not used to bypass the power meter. Still, Essex Powerlines removed the cable for police.

A joint investigation between the Amherstburg Police Service and Provincial Anti Violence Intervention Strategy Team and Windsor Police Service is ongoing.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the operation.

Police arrested a 32-year-old-Amherstburg man, a 25-year-old Windsor man, 33-year-old Scarborough man and 38-year-old Scarborough man.

The men are being held in custody on several drug related charges and will appear in court on November 16, 2012.
