Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma sector seized approximately 22 pounds of black tar heroin and arrested one suspected smuggler Sunday.
Border Patrol agents assigned to the Wellton station checkpoint on Interstate 8 referred a suspicious vehicle to secondary inspection following a cursory inspection by a canine team.
The vehicle, a green Chevrolet Silverado Extended Cab, was occupied by one male Mexican national.
Further investigation revealed several packages of black tar heroin located inside the engine’s manifold.
The heroin, with an estimated street value of $1,792,000, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the vehicle and driver.
