Convict runs ecstasy factory from inside jail
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An ecstasy factory in the Serpong area raided by the police recently was being run by an inmate of the Cipinang State Penitentiary in East Jakarta, police said.
"The manager of the factory was a prisoner at Cipinang jail named Muhammad Yusuf alias Kebot," a National Police Headquarters officer, Brigadier General Arman Depari, said here on Saturday.
Muhammad Yusuf was serving a 13-year jail sentence meted out to him in 2007 for a drug-related offense but he continued to control the operations of an ecstasy-making organization in a house in the Serpong area from jail with the help of a cellular phone.
In fact, Arman said, Yusuf was also suspected to be involved on the selling of 400 grains of confiscated drugs embezzled by an erring public prosecutor, Esther Tanak.
Earlier, on Friday (March 26) the police raided a house that functioned as an ecstasy factory in Serpong, South Tangerang city. Six men were arrested and 12,000 grains of ecstasy, five kilograms of raw materials for making the pill, and a gun confiscated.(*)
