Cops: Thousands of marijuana plants found at Detroit house
Detroit police are wading through a house filled with thousands of marijuana plants after a late morning breaking-and-entering report led to the discovery of a professional pot-growing operation, officials said.
Spokesman John Roach said police responding to a call about a suspected burglary smelled a strong scent of marijuana when they approached the home being burgled, which is in the 20000 block of Westbrook near 8 Mile and Lahser.
Police obtained a search warrant and discovered a professional indoor irrigation and lighting system feeding an estimated 5,000-7,000 marijuana plants, Roach said.
Officers have the burglary suspect in custody, but it isn’t yet clear whether he knew he was breaking into a drug house, Roach said.
“We don’t know whether he knew what was in the house or thought it was an occupied home,” he said.
As of 1:30 p.m., officers were still on the scene at the home
