An online auction will help the Augusta County sheriff's office earn some money from a major drug bust.

It's been a year-and-a-half since investigators seized two-dozen vehicles from Douglas Jay Rankin, who's now serving time in federal prison.

The General Services Administration (GSA) is selling off the property Rankin left behind. That includes several dump trucks, a skid loader, an RV and a boat.

Augusta County Sheriff Randy Fisher said, We will see the lion's share of the proceeds whatever it comes back for. There's a host of things we can use it for. Mainly short-term things like equipment, drug buys, pay overtime to investigate narcotics trafficking.

The GSA is selling the vehicles in an online auction that ends on Thursday. Sheriff Fisher initially valued the seized property at nearly $500,000.
