Drug suspect in Miami is 1st Dane extradited to U.S.

The first Dane ever extradited to the United States on criminal charges was scheduled to appear in federal court in Miami Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Camilla Broe, taken into custody Friday by the U.S. Marshals Service in Denmark, is charged with importing MDMA, also known as ecstasy, into Miami from June 1997 to February 1998.

``This case demonstrates the persistence typical of DEA special agents who will relentlessly hunt drug traffickers no matter how long it takes,'' said Mark R. Trouville, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's field office in Miami.

Drug suspect in Miami is 1st Dane extradited to U.S.

The first Dane ever extradited to the United States in a criminal case faces drug-trafficking charges that could send him to prison for up to 20 years.

Camilla Broe, taken into custody Friday in Denmark, is charged with conspiring with three convicted codefendants to import MDMA, also known as ecstasy, into Miami from 1995 to 2000.

Broe, who had his first hearing in federal court Tuesday, is accused of smuggling, distribution and money laundering in the 14-count indictment.

His codefendants -- Fernando Luminati-Tonelli, Michell Luminati-Tonelli and Fortunato Ivano Cornelli -- have pleaded guilty.

Looks to be some discrepancy on the years involved. @nd story is first mention of co-defendants. Presumably they were arrested within the US .?

Always thought the statues of limitations for felonies was 7 years.

^^^ Turtle remembers hearing some time ago that the statue of limitations had been removed for many crimes. Furthermore- it is turtles understanding that if you are charged, even in absentia, the clock stops on the statue of limitations.
A year or two ago they busted one of the largest hash smugglers in the us who had been on the run for 20 or so years
