View attachment 42623 Alfa and- View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 How did you find Drugs-Forum?/How did you arrive at DF? When did you first come across Drugs-Forum (whether this was when you actually joined or not)? What was your first impression when you arrived at DF?

    MrG:

The answer to all three is one I have posted about previously. I had read a BBC News website article back in 2005 titled, "The Paintstripper Drug That Kills" and found it incredulous to think they were claiming people were drinking back highly toxic chemicals to get a high from a drug that left them dead or twitching in a spasmodic coma on life-support. So an internet search for factual information on GHB/GBL popped up the D-F website, back when it was .co.uk! I signed up with this username, not as a reference to my interest in GHB but simply because it is a shortened version of another internet pseudonym I use. My first impression was that I was among people who, unlike most forums, did not permit ad hominem attacks on other users, nor unfounded speculation to be posted as fact. An overly- sarcastic comment made to another member (Sorry Lostgurl!) was swiftly shut down with berating replies and negative rep. Lesson, quite rightly, learned.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 How long have you been a staff member?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

I *think* it was since 2008

    View attachment 42635 Nosferatus asked...

View attachment 42637 How exactly did you become a staff member?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

By being a total gobshite about all things GHB-related after having spent far too much time researching online and offline. They were desperate to stick someone into that forum I guess.

View attachment 42635 Nosferatus and - View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 How much of your time do you generally spend on moderating duties?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Ouchie. The past year has seen a woefully poor level of attendance here due to RL commitments. Back in the day I'd easily average several hours a day either performing mod duties or participating in discussions.

    View attachment 42635 Nosferatus asked...

View attachment 42637 What motivates you to do this?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Knowledge is power. I want to empower those who seek it by promoting functional and constructive discussion and dialogue. On all topics.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 Does becoming a Mod involve changing your DF posting style at all?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Tricky one. I could say I had to tone down the emotional-charge behind some of my replies, but I think people would probably dispute that ever happened.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 What is your favorite part about being a member of DF staff?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    The wizard cloak.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 What is the hardest part about being a staff member?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Having to politely respond to whining and whingeing DM's, but I think people would probably dispute that ever happened.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 What is your favorite everyday moderation task?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Picture gallery approval queue. Always a crapshoot of the weird, the wonderful and the NSFW.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 Now, name one moderation task that you legitimately dislike.

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Member promotion reviews. Urgh! The work involved in that is just absurd. Alf refuses to listen to my idea of simply taking payment under the table with a nod and a wink and stubbornly insists that every nominated person be fully evaluated on their entire post history!

    View attachment 42629 GeographyGeography asked...

View attachment 42637 Was DF more rewarding at the beginning as you began to rise through the ranks, at the very beginning, or is it best now when you are as respected as 'true resources beyond repute'?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

There was definitely a period of time at the beginning when it was exciting to see the green blobs building and the positive rep count rising. It was just as important to learn how to cope with negative rep comments, which can be a painful lesson in intellectual honesty, whereby the need to properly consider the criticism trumps the urge to throw your toys from the pram and start verbally flinging poo. With regards to whether it is 'more rewarding' to be respected now, I'll go with the 'Matrix' quote, "When you're ready, you won't have to".

    View attachment 42628 DeepGreenSea asked...

View attachment 42637 What action/moment in your DF moment makes you most proud?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

There is a great deal that makes me proud to have been a part of this community over the years. Lives saved, critical information shared, support given.

    View attachment 42623 Alfa asked...

View attachment 42637 What do you like most about DF?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    Integrity

    View attachment 42628 DeepGreenSea asked...

View attachment 42637 Is there anything you would change about the site if you were The Big Boss?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Advertising, shit loads of fee-earning advertising. But, then, there's that pesky fucking Integrity getting in the way as usual.

    View attachment 42632 LuLu81 asked...

View attachment 42637 What is the one question that people ask, that makes you scream, no not again UTFSE!!!!??

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    Who is SWIM?

    View attachment 42631 Joe-(5-HTP) asked...

View attachment 42637 How many times per day are you in danger of losing your temper?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

I rarely lose my temper, it's always safe in my back pocket in case I need to whip it out and whack somebody upside the head with it, Joe. No, seriously, I get annoyed easily, but rarely actually wig-out. These days, anyway.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 What are some of the funniest most embarrassing thing to happen to while you had your Mod hat on?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

I think I recall posting something rude about an annoying member in the Staff chatbox channel, back when we had the box at the top of the screen, only to find I'd actually posted it in the general channel where the user concerned already was.

    View attachment 42634 Nickelass asked...

View attachment 42637 Is it hard to balance being a mod on this site while dealing with other non-DF aspects of your life?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

It is these days. But I was fortunate enough previously to be able to get away with not doing a great deal of actual work in my day to day life that I could hang around here for hours on end.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 How long do you see yourself sticking with DF, whether as staff or a regular poster?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

I'd like to get back to being able to get away with not doing a great deal of actual work in my day to day life that I could hang around here for hours on end.

    View attachment 42628 DeepGreenSea asked...

View attachment 42637 What have YOU learned from being a mod/advisor?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Holy crap, the things I could tell you! Seriously.

View attachment 42625 Booty love asked...

View attachment 42637 Do any of ya'll have small children, if so, how do you balance your responsibilities on here with those of being a parent?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Education, not indoctrination is my motto and my children will be taught as much information about psychoactive drug use and abuse that I can give them. To do that I needed to learn from the best resource, this place. That's how I balanced it.

View attachment 42633 Name goes here asked...

View attachment 42637 What drugs do you use?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

None, although a friend of mine has quite the history of experiential drug research involving a wide range of substances, he's rarely indulging in much these days albeit he does have something of a weed habit.

View attachment 42624 beentheredonethatagain and - View attachment 42625 Booty love asked...

View attachment 42637 How many smoke cannabis and how often?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    See above

    View attachment 42638 TheBigBadWolf asked...

View attachment 42637 Are you modding when under the influence?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

No. My modding took place during daylight hours and partying occurred at night.

    View attachment 42632 LuLu81 asked...

View attachment 42637 If you could choose only one drug to be legalized, what would it be?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Cannabis. While not entirely harmless a substance it must surely be ranked amongst the least harmful and most beneficial/medicinal of psychoactive drugs.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 By nature, do people consider you an outgoing person or a reserved one?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Loud-mouthed opinionated gobshite. I am exactly who you imagine me to be.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 What angers you, and what makes you laugh? R-E-A-L-L-Y laugh?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    Willful ignorance, quality banter.

    View attachment 42634 Nickelass asked...

View attachment 42637 PC or Mac? And why?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

PC, because I don't need to live in a walled garden, no matter how beautiful it may be.

    View attachment 42630 hookedonhelping asked...

View attachment 42637 If Alfa was a Muppet, which one would he be?!

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

    Sam Eagle

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 MrG, outside of DF, do people consider you outgoing or kind of reserved (be honest!)?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Outgoing, engaging, funny and kind. That's me. Seriously, it is. Except when I'm tearing somebody a new one.

    View attachment 42907 malsat asked...

View attachment 42637 Does MrG really have an afro?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

No. That's all Bob Ross. MrG has regular short back and sides bloke-hair.

    View attachment 42907 malsat asked...

View attachment 42637 Hey baby, how you doin'?

    View attachment 43011 MrG:

Am I supposed to answer this or giggle like a schoolgirl?

I know you've been really busy lately, so it does mean a lot that you took the time to share your views for this. Thanks man, you always make me smile.

What a nice treat to see you again, Mr. G. I missed you and your red-pencil Modding style.

I loved your interview, and I smiled, laughed and gaffaw-ed my way through the entire of it. I especially appreciated hearing that as a newbie you, too, enjoyed watching the "green blobs" mount up, and feared the long arm of the rep system as much as any of us did when you first joined. And for sharing the jaw-dropping fact that while modding you once accidentally responded to an unnamed DF member's post with a not-for-prime-time message intended for the staff chat-box instead. Very honest and quite funny--now.

Thanks much for sharing and letting us mere members get a truer glimpse of the Mod whose words made hands sweat and knees shake more than any Mod before or since! Best of luck to you in all your ventures.

(Oh...one thing I will share with you here privately, here on the bottom of the page. Since you like honestly, I think you can take it. Hell, I know you can. When you use quotes, the comma always goes inside the quotes, not outside. ("When you're ready, you won't have to". WRONG) Just a little something to chew on. While you're working. Ha ha!!!)

^^Shared sentiments, but....I've been waiting so long to find out about the afro and I am now devastated. You will always have an afro in my world.
