View attachment 42623 Alfa asked...

View attachment 42637 How did you arrive at DF?

    Phenoxide:

I was looking for information about several deaths after a Danish RC vendor mistakenly sold bromo-dragonFLY as 2C-B-FLY. Googling around, DF was one of the few places to have picked up on the story and that was making an effort to warn people of the risk. I was impressed by the thoughtful discussions going on and decided to stick around and partake. I think I'd come across DF in passing a few times in the years before that, but this was the first time I really looked around enough to see that this is a thriving community with a deep knowledge base. This was also just as the RC market was coming into the mainstream, so it was a really unique point in time.

View attachment 42637 How much of your time do you generally spend on moderating duties?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

I dread to think! At a guess I'd say I probably spend around 15 hours a week, sometimes more if there's a big project going on.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 Does becoming a Mod involve changing your DF posting style at all?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

I think we probably have to be a little more tolerant and a little less opinionated.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 What is the hardest part about being a staff member?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Having to intervene in those inevitable internet dramas, especially when it involves people you like and respect.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 What is your favorite everyday moderation task?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Jeez, that's a bit like having a favorite household chore. Moving threads I guess - there's something satisfying about threads all being in their rightful home. That and correcting typos in thread titles.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 Now, name one moderation task that you legitimately dislike.

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

    Negative rep moderation!

    View attachment 42629 GeographyGeography asked...

View attachment 42637 Was DF more rewarding at the beginning as you began to rise through the ranks, at the very beginning, or is it best now when you are as respected as 'true resources beyond repute'?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

It's rewarding in different ways. As a new member I had more time to get involved in discussions that interested me. As a mod, it's rewarding to see the bigger picture of how the site as a whole is moving onwards and upwards.

    View attachment 42628 DeepGreenSea asked...

View attachment 42637 Is there anything you would change about the site if you were The Big Boss?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

I'm not sure exactly what I could do to make this happen, but I'd like to see the discussions become more inclusive. I'd love to see more of the thousands of members joining each month becoming active and regular participants on the forum. On a more practical note, I'd trash the drug testing section of the site and replace it with a comprehensive Drugs-Wiki article on the subject. I've never been a fan of the "will I pass?" and "how do I beat this drug test?" threads.

    View attachment 42632 LuLu81 asked...

View attachment 42637 What is the one question that people ask, that makes you scream, no not again UTFSE!!!!??

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

The constant drug ID threads are monotonous, but I'm not going to pick that because I find it reassuring that people are questioning what they're buying. I'd have to go with people asking very basic questions about DXM doses. There are three or four really detailed and helpful sticky threads in that section of the site that'd answer those questions with a few minutes of reading.

    View attachment 42631 Joe-(5-HTP) asked...

View attachment 42637 How many times per day are you in danger of losing your temper?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

I function at a constant level of generalized irritation rather than cycling between rage and chill. I could probably count the times something on DF has genuinely angered me on one hand.

    View attachment 42636 Phungushead asked...

View attachment 42637 How long do you see yourself sticking with DF, whether as staff or a regular poster?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Until there comes a time that the discussions here no longer interest me, though I don't see that arising any time soon. Or until the RC vendors come up with an acronym for a new product that is so stupid it makes me quit in disgust (the threat to market methoxetamine as Roflcoptr was a close call!).

    View attachment 42628 DeepGreenSea asked...

View attachment 42637 What have YOU learned from being a mod/advisor?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

I guess the biggest thing would be the huge amount of work that goes into this site behind the scenes, both from members and staff. It's also been interesting to see how much the dynamic between the most active members of the community influences the nature of the entire site.

View attachment 42633 Name goes here asked...

View attachment 42637 What drugs do you use?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

These days not so many, though I still have an interest in psychedelics and some research chemicals. I like alcohol more than alcohol likes me.

View attachment 42624 beentheredonethatagain and - View attachment 42625 Booty love asked...

View attachment 42637 How many smoke cannabis and how often?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Rarely, though I am partial to an occasional edible or two.

    View attachment 42638 TheBigBadWolf asked...

View attachment 42637 Are you modding when under the influence?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Nope, sitting in front of a screen seems like a waste of a buzz. Though we should be prescribed modafanil during Gold member reviews.

    View attachment 42632 LuLu81 asked...

View attachment 42637 If you could choose only one drug to be legalized, what would it be?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Though I think psychedelics are completely misunderstood and mishandled by legislators, I'll have to go with cannabis. It's bizarre for something so ubiqituous and accepted in our society, and that is for the most part benign, to remain criminalized in the 21st century.

    View attachment 42634 Nickelass asked...

View attachment 42637 PC or Mac? And why?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

PC. There's something insufferably smug about the way Apple products are marketed that completely turns me off. Though I'll probably start looking at Linux if Windows continues to morph into a Fisher Price toy.

    View attachment 42630 hookedonhelping asked...

View attachment 42637 If Alfa was a Muppet, which one would he be?!

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Kermit's too obvious. I'm thinking Brewster.

    View attachment 42626 Beenthere2Hippie asked...

View attachment 42637 You are a rather quiet guy on DF, other than when you send rep decisions via DMs. What, if anything, animates you and makes you a crazy man (sports, the stock market, philosophical debate, animals, music...)?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

5,000 posts later, I don't think I'm all that quiet! As a Brit, alcohol, drugs, soccer and the pursuit of the perfect cup of tea all get me pretty animated.

    View attachment 42623 Alfa asked...
View attachment 42637 Where do you see DF in 5 years?

    View attachment 42592 Phenoxide:

Still going strong, and a financially secure fully fledged not-for-profit organization. I'd like to see the site building closer ties with other drug awareness and education groups, academic researchers and other specialists so that DF is recognized as the go-to resource for drug-related topics. The next year or two are going to be a particularly interesting time for DF.

Man, the sheer amount of work you do here is insane... Your sense of humor, which makes me laugh at least once or twice a week, often reminds me that you also are human, not machine! Thanks for constantly being a voice of reason around here... And for picking up my slack :)

What a very good read indeed. And written with just the right amounts of wry humor and biting honesty.
