QUITO – Drug enforcement agents seized more than one ton of cocaine in a container bound for Spain and arrested a suspect, Ecuadorian television reported.
The cocaine was hidden in a furniture shipment at the port in Guayaquil, a city in southwestern Ecuador, Canal Uno television said.
Drug enforcement agents found 1,042 bales of cocaine weighing just over 1.1 tons, the television station reported, citing police spokesmen.
Police in the coastal province of El Oro, on the border with Peru, found 30.5 kilos of cocaine hidden in a shipment of bananas bound for export.
The container was being shipped to the United States, Canal Uno said.
