'Big Brother' completes detox in China after being fed spiked bananas
BEIJING - A once drug-addled elephant fed heroin-laced bananas by illegal traders will return home after emerging clean from a three-year detox program on China's tropical island province of Hainan. The four-year-old bull elephant, referred to alternately as "Big Brother" or "Xiguang" in state media reports, was captured in 2005 in southwest China by traders who used spiked bananas to control him.
After police arrested the traders and freed Xiguang a few months later, the elephant was confirmed to be suffering from withdrawal symptoms and sent to a wild animal protection center in Hainan for rehab, Xinhua news agency said on Thursday.

A year of methadone injections at five times the human dosage had helped wean Xiguang off his addiction. Now clean, Xiguang was expected to arrive on Saturday at a wildlife park in Kunming, capital of the elephant's home province of Yunnan on the mainland.
Xiguang's return would cap a 1,500-km journey home, Xinhua said, and mark another step in the elephant's triumph over addiction.

wow, thats so short-sighted to use heroin to control it, don't they realize that his problems will be 100x worse when he goes into withdrawals?

Fuck, swim bets he will never forget the first Banana though.
Swim is also concerned if it was the elephants decision to kick the gear & to go through a 3 year rehab. Swim means, did he even get to look at elephant porn whilst rattling? Mind you, swim dislikes wild things like monkeys and shit.
Swim is from the UK and in a city called Newcastle we have an annual fair called "the Hoppins" As a child swim was once given a baby monkey to hold there so a gypsy could photograph him with a polaroid, as a souvenier of the fair. Swim does not recall the breed of the monkey, only that it was skinny and a bit bald. Anyway, as swim held the monkey to get the picture taken, my index finger some how slipped inside the monkey which swim hopes was female yet could never be sure, not that swim would have felt any better. This was a total accident and swim believes that swims subsequent heroin addiction could have been attributed to that disturbing incident.

Reminds of a 200-year-old factory in India that processes opium, where opium addicted junky monkeys hang around eating opium waste.

besides for how cruel & funny the story is with a twist... there is a lesson for inquisitive minds, it just goes to show how addictive heroin really is... at least he kicked the addiction as porchy said.
