Ephedrone seized for first time in Czech Republic

Czech customs officers detained a Pole with 15 kilograms of ephedrone at the Prague airport at the end of last week, the first time the drug was seized in the Czech Republic, perhaps in Europe, customs authority spokesman Jiri Bartak told CTK.

Ephedrone, a drug similar to metamphetamine, had the street value of 45 million crowns, Bartak said.

The Czech Drug Unit also contributed to the arrest. The ephedrone was seized not only in Prague, but also in Brno, Bartak said.

"Further investigation is underway," Bartak said.

Ephedrone is a fully synthetic drug in the form of white crystalline powder. Customs officers say it is an alternative to metamphetamine or ephedrine.

The server iDnes.cz has written that a new drug similar to ephedrine, mephedrone, is gaining ground in the Czech Republic.

With the slang name meow, mephedrone's effect is similar to ecstasy and cocaine. The drug is legal and it can be bought at the Internet as a white powder for fertilising purposes, but it has nothing in common with any care for plants, the server has written.

Mephedrone can cause euphoria without hallucinations, feelings of openness, urge to talk and lowered appetite.

It is still legal in the Czech Republic, while it was banned in some European countries as it can kill.

confusing story as it is hard to understand exactly what drug is being discussed. From some research:

Ephedrone, also referred to by its street name, "Jeff", is 2-methylamino-1-phenylpropan-1-one

Ephedrone has also referred to Methcathinone (α-methylamino-propiophenone),
But the article then goes on to discuss mephedrone

There was also this story the other day about mephedrone in the Czech Republic Czechs start using miauw
