ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Federal and local officials raided multiple St. Louis-area convenience stores Tuesday.

A spokesman for the DEA wouldn't say what the raids were about but told News 4 that search warrants were executed at 23 locations.

Police sources say the raid pertains to K2 synthetic marijuana sales. An owner of the markets is being questioned.

Michael Hicks was working at 6-Star Market in the 8700 block of Riverview Boulevard when the federal agents arrived around 10 a.m.

"I was talking to my friend on the phone and the next thing I know police came in and said they had a search warrant they told me to get off the phone. At that time I told my boss, he went back there and the next thing I know he was handcuffed the next time I saw him," said Hicks.

Homeland Security issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon regarding the investigation:

"Federal special agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with additional federal, state and local law enforcement partners, are conducting a law enforcement operation in and around St. Louis on May 23. As this operation involves an on-going investigation no further details are publicly available at this time."

News 4 saw special agents and local law enforcement outside the Northway Market in the 5500 block of West Florissant, Mally's Supermarket in the 7400 block of West Florissant and a Phillips 66 in the 2800 block of North Florissant.

Some of the agencies involved in the raids include the FBI, DEA, IRS, USDA, Homeland Security and the Missouri Department of Revenue. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and St. Louis County Police Department officers assisted with the raids.

What's the Internal Revenue Service want with K2? Ah well, no matter. Good. Any place selling K2 gets my disapproval. Shit will give you a seizure.
