Five arrested in Pretoria drug lab
Five people were arrested when police raided a drug lab in Faerie Glen, east of Pretoria.
Police received information about a drug laboratory in the area and raided the house, police spokeswoman Captain Colette Weilbach said.
In the house they found chemicals used to manufacture Khat, a drug derived from a shrub (Catha edulis) originally from East Africa and southern Arabia.
The house owner, a 31-year-old woman, her boyfriend and three other men were arrested.
The lab was said to be worth more than R50,000.
All those arrested were charged with the manufacturing and possession of drugs, while the woman's mother was also charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
When khat is mixed with chemicals, a powder substance can be made.
