CALIFORNIA - A 5-year-old boy who police say was in the car with a half-pound bag of cocaine as his father allegedly ran a drug deal tested positive for coke, cops said.

Marco Cuevas, 31, and his wife were arrested Friday in Moorpark, Calif., after a months-long investigation by the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit. Cuevas was arrested after officers from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office witnessed him allegedly selling cocaine. Police said they found ounces of cocaine on his person and a half-pound bag of the drug in his car.

Police decided to test the child after finding him next to the half-pound bag of cocaine. The investigation into Cuevas started in July after police noticed a sharp increase in cocaine use in the region. At the Cuevas' home, police allegedly found hundreds of prescription pills, several pounds of marijuana, $75,000 in cash, 16 guns, and nearly 3,000 rounds of ammunition. Police said there was evidence of gun sales in addition to drug sales in the home.

Capt. Don Aguilar of the Venture County Sherriff's Office said other children lived in the home, but all were taken into protective custody after the arrests. The couple's 5-year-old son was released from the hospital after from testing positive for cocaine, he said. "It was out of a safety concern," Aguilar said of the decision to test the child for cocaine, noting he had been sitting very close to the bag of drugs.

Marco Cuevas faces multiple charges including possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, child endangerment, and multiple weapons violations. He was in jail with bail set at $1 million. He is scheduled to go to court for next month. Cuevas' wife, Sandy Cuevas, 29, was also arrested and charged with possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, and child endangerment.

A phone call made to a number listed to Sandy Cuevas was not answered.
