1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

I was having a conversation with a friend (more of an argument, really) a couple of nights ago about my participation here. He knows that some of my attempts to discuss my problems with addiction here haven't gone so well, and he was trying to convince me that continuing to share my problems in the open forum is a bad idea. I think he was right.

Just like anywhere else, there are givers and takers here. Some come here and take more in terms of knowledge and support than they provide, and some end up in the role of providing advice while remaining silent about their problems. I think that things will go more smoothly for me here if I accept the latter role.

It's a tough pill to swallow--the knowledge that not all types of problems and not all types of people will receive the same support--but sometimes notions of egalitarianism are more harmful than helpful.
