CADDO MILLS, Texas — It was raining marijuana in a rural area of east Texas.

Hunt County Undersheriff Joe Knight says rural homeowners near Greenville reported hearing duffel bags filled with what appeared to be marijuana thud onto their roofs early Monday.

Knight said his department was advised about 5:30 a.m. Monday to watch for a low-flying aircraft. A single-engine plane was found abandoned in a field beside a runway at Caddo Mills Municipal Airport about two hours later.

No injuries or damage was reported. Knight said the public has turned in four black nylon duffel bags filled with what appeared to be high-grade, hydroponic marijuana. Deputies found two other bags of pot in the plane.

A man is in custody for questioning, but no charges have been filed in the case.

Caddo Mills is about 35 miles northeast of Dallas.

swim can't believe people actually turn in these things.
I understand most would not know what to do with it, but there are a lot of people who do, if a few thousand dollars worth of high grade ganja landed on swims roof, the last people swim would want to have it are the cops.

Oh how Nemo wishes one of them bags dropped into his backyard and no-one ever came to collect it, he certainly wouldn't report it! He'd be in smoky cannabinoid heaven for a long while and he'd be loving every second of it, smoking night and day!

Alas, he can only dream of such a thing as duffel bags of marijuana raining from the sky.

What an awesome story and post, thanx for finding and sharing! News like this make for great conversation between Nemo and his stoner friends!

Curiosity is getting the best of me. Why did this person drop off the marijuana where they did, since obviously not the intended mark? Was it because authorities were closing in on the aircraft?

SWIM would turn (most of) it in.

If a criminal organization had to drop a large quantity of marijuana, and it was not reported in the press, they'd know the Police had not been informed. They'd likely 'discreetly' ask questions in the house that the pilot had to drop it on(with GPS & other technology today, it's quite likely this house would be discovered).

SWIM would take a small amount from each bag for personal use, and bury it a few kilometers away before calling the authorities and reporting it. A few (one, two) ounces would not be missed.. If the criminal organizations got exact numbers of the haul, and noticed the discrepancy, well, it would not be worth hurting civilians for an ounce ;)

SWIM would keep a enough for SWIM's self and probably hand the rest in, just to be on the safe side. I personally wouldn't like to be woke up by criminals breaking into my house asking me to give their weed back, then again I'd probably be absolutely blazed :)
