This Is (Literally) Your Brain on Drugs: Views From Inside a Drug User’s Brain

Researchers want to find out if LSD could help medical research, but first they first need to examine the inside of a brain under the influence of the drug to see exactly what’s happening. National Geographic takes an inside look at their Explorer program: Trailer uploaded to Video Archive

Using enhanced brain imaging, non-hallucinogenic versions of the drug and information from an underground network of test subjects who suffer from an agonizing condition for which there is no cure, researchers are finding that this “trippy” drug could become the pharmaceutical of the future. Can it enhance our brain power, expand our creativity and cure disease? To find out, Explorer puts LSD under the microscope.

Want to see for yourself? Take a look inside a tripper’s brain: Video Archive

Those video links give me only: "There is nothing here to show you (no permission, all entries hidden, etc)"

But I watched the videos on National Geographics website, and they are impressive. Even if little sensational, the style suits LSD :)

Interesting video, but it's very, very focused on the negative aspects of LSD. Too biased for me to truly enjoy.

I don't think it's biased at all. It just raises interest by giving a picture of what LSD experience could be, and it's very good at that. It also deals with the negative side noting the casualties, but it doesn't involve statistics. This isn't the kind of documentary that is full of stats, facts and research. This is more to arouse curiosity, transmit the experience and keep an open mind. I liked especially the way the second or third video explained the effects on the mind(yes, there is a series of video clips on the website if one didn't notice).

The negative effects are simply noted without going too deep into opinions about their source, and it is let to the viewer to think himself what might cause these experiences. In my mind it just serves to give LSD the importance it deserves, when there are both good and bad sides included.

The turtle lives w/o tv so he will miss the full episode when its on Tuesday? the 3rd. Hopefully it will be available on the web...

bloody hell. Was in to much of a rush this morning and missed that fact. The pieces with Nick Sands is priceless as well, and am always happy to see Mark McCloud :vibes:

I will get the other clips uploaded to the archives this weekend.

That's all true, I just meant it more in the sense fixating on an acid trip STRAIGHT INTO HELL is a bit negative. I read in the comments of that video, one person asked along the lines of, "Why not have looked into one of the many more illuminating acid trip, such as Francis Crick's experience? (who discovered the struture of DNA while on LSD, and yeah, he's dead but I think it was meant as an example). I mean, even an intense, emotional, painful trip is one thing but they literally chose one of the most horrifying experiences possible, to really believe you're going to hell.

Yeah, you're right about there not being a opposite experience describing the heavenly, ecstatic experience. I see function of the description of hellish trip is to emphasize the intensity of effects of LSD. The overall tone of this video is that LSD is something amazing. Those who get interested have to find out more on their own. If they are put off by the negative experience without a thought on how such a promising substance with millions of users sometimes go so wrong, they shouldn't be taking LSD.

I'm just happy there is no permanent insanity/psyhosis speculation, no rediculous myths about LSD in the form of stats or horror stories, just facts in a sense of what the experience might be like.

Hi, I'm actually in this program in the segment about the psilocybin trial for cancer anxiety at Harbor-UCLA. The show is much more balanced than that negative clip suggests. I think visitors to this forum will be reasonably satisfied with the program taken as a whole. - Aylish
