    Man arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle heroin from Lebanon

    Police on Sunday night arrested a man who was reportedly trying to smuggle heroin into Israel from Lebanon.

    Th man was arrested by a team consisting of police from the Lebanon border unit of the Galilee district and IDF soldiers. On his person he was reportedly carrying 11.5 kilos of heroin.

    The suspect, a man in his thirties from Beit Zarzir, was taken before a remand hearing on Monday, where the judge ruled he must stay in custody until Friday.

    just for precision's sake, the Lebanon-Israeli border is closed.

    no one can "legally" cross it, unless for a very good, authorized, specific reason. so this was already a pretty touchy situation, heroin or no heroin.

    think the last time it was actually open was in 1982, and this was during a very specific moment in time, during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
