Man High On PCP & Marijuana Slits Kids' Throats - One Dead; One In Critical Condition

The attack was the second recent one in Camden (New Jersey) involving a child and a suspect said to be high on PCP and marijuana.

A Camden man high on PCP-laced marijuana stabbed two neighborhood children in their home while they slept, killing a 6-year-old boy and critically wounding his 12-year-old sister, authorities said.

Osvaldo Rivera, of Camden, was found hiding between a mattress and a bedroom wall Sunday afternoon inside a city apartment and was charged Monday with murder and attempted murder, said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office.

The attack was the second recent one in Camden involving a child and a suspect said to be high on PCP and marijuana.

Rivera, 31, was being held in jail awaiting arraignment, which Laughlin said will likely be held Tuesday. Laughlin didn't know if Rivera had an attorney.

Police found blood-stained sneakers inside the apartment where Rivera was arrested that matched bloody footprints in the home where Dominick Andujor was stabbed to death, Laughlin said. The boy's 12-year-old sister had her throat slit while she slept in another room. She remained hospitalized Monday at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. The hospital, though, has declined to discuss her condition, citing privacy reasons.

While being questioned by investigators, Rivera said he had smoked a combination of marijuana and the hallucinogenic drug PCP before the attack, Laughlin said.

On Aug. 22, 33-year-old Chevonne Thomas of Camden allegedly decapitated her 2-year-old toddler and then fatally stabbed herself after smoking a similar combination, known as "wet."

Laughlin said there have been several other murders in recent years in which PCP-laced marijuana has apparently played a role. He said the drug combination makes people incoherent, hallucinatory and, in some cases, violent, adding that authorities plan to take steps to curb the drug's market.

The children stabbed Sunday were being watched by a 14-year-old girl, authorities said. The teen, who was unharmed, was caring for them because their mother recently underwent surgery and was still in the hospital.

Laughlin said the 12-year-old, whose name wasn't released, fled the home after the attack and was found at a neighbor's home a few doors down. Police soon went to the girl's home and were met by another child who ran outside, screaming for help for her brother. The 6-year-old boy was found lying on the floor.

While Rivera was still being sought on Sunday, a woman who lives nearby said he was well-known around the neighborhood and seemed to be a peaceful person. He also was often seen playing with the local children.

"People would never think he would do something like this," Nakyta McCray said.

I have to wonder if the addition of THC, which I am guessing would amplify the effects of PCP (I have never tried PCP, but familiar with the class it is in) in conjunction with an individual who is unfamiliar with the effects, would lend itself to such violence. This is a shame, and beyond tragic. One has to wonder if he knew the marijuana was laced as well, as the story doesn't seem to have these details.

Stories like this only re-enforce my views on PCP and my lack of desire to ever try it.

I think that can be said for any sane person, and speaks volumes of this drugs ability to cause the user to lose reality and incite violence. Maybe some members familiar with this combo can comment on the odds this sort of behavior can occur? Sad story indeed.

I've accidentally had "wet" before without being told over a decade ago. I remember freaking out and running up what I thought was a flat plane (but turned out to be a steep hill) all the way to the nearest psych ward, where I was forced to stay for 3 days for "observation". No violent urges though - and no disassociative I've seen anyone take caused violent reactions either (including the "meo" versions of PCP), but I don't make it a point in particular to hang out with regular PCP users, so who knows.

Test: Camden Mom Who Decapitated Toddler Had Smoked PCP-Laced Marijuana

    December 4, 2012 9:28 AM

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Toxicology tests show a New Jersey woman who decapitated her 2-year-old son and then killed herself in August had smoked PCP-laced marijuana.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s released the test results Monday showing 34-year-old Chevonne Thomas had used the drug before killing her son and putting his head in a freezer.

The woman had suffered from mental illness and had twice lost custody of her son because of drug use. It was believed from the Aug. 22 tragedy that she was using the drug known as “wet,” which is linked to violence in some users.

The same drug was linked to another horrific crime in Camden weeks later. In that case, authorities say a man broke into a home where he attacked a sleeping girl, then fatally stabbed her 6-year-old brother.

Wow my cat knows a few pcp addicts and 2 out of 3 of them become violent/ unpredictable when using, it definitely seems like a common reaction to the drug. My cat also lives near camden and when he makes his dope runs to philly this cat always spots some the wet dealers. Apparently its still popular. Scary stuff.
