Man on Nitrous Oxide Shoots Himself Accidentally during a Dental Visit

COLUMBUS— A New Carlisle, Ohio man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself during a dentist’s appointment.

72-year-old James White was under nitrous oxide at New Carlisle Dental Group when he thought he heard his phone ring, went to grab it, but accidentally grabbed his pistol and fired the weapon, sending a bullet through his hand and grazing his stomach.

No one else was injured in the incident.

“If you’re going to be put under nitrous, then you think twice about taking your gun into the dental office,” said a neighbor who lives near the dentist office.

White has his concealed carry permit and the dentist’s office has no signs asking carriers not to bring firearms into the facility.

“Going into a doctor’s office where you might be placed under some kind of medication, you might not want to carry a weapon in there,” said Sgt. Christina Evans-Fisher of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. “Think of your safety and the safety of those around you.”

An employee of the New Carlisle Dental Group said the employees were “shaken up,” but also know it was absolutely an accident.

I don't even know... what? Why bring a gun to a surgery?! Also the employees were shaken up?! You think nbc?! i just stop following that idea of going in there. Seems like guns + anesthesia do not go together well guys fuck what will they do.... Does anyone else get dentist appointments while they're in the middle of drug binge? In past 2 years all times except 1 I was in speed and/or coke binge and didn't know I had anything on schedule. It happened too many times to me. uncanny they know too because you have bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils and drymouth and tremors they're gonna make it for monday. just cause they never even say anything about it it's bizarre why have I gone to same one all my life I don't want to see someone who watched me grow up since like 4 it just gets annoying.

I have never been anywhere that had a "no guns" sign in New York State that wasn't an airport or government building.

Lucky for this guy, the explosion didn't ignite the highly explosive gas lines/tanks. This could have been a terrible tragedy.
