Guardia Civil officers in Gran Canaria arrested three people early this morning, found to be in possession of 700kg of hashish.
The three were intercepted by a Guardia Civil patrol boat 11 miles from shore as they sped towards the coast of Gran Canaria in an inflatable Zodiac-type boat.
The patrol boat was alerted by a radar ground station on the island, which informed them of a suspicious blip on the radar screens.
Once at the scene, the three men, all believed to be Moroccan, were taken into custody together with their cargo of 700kg of hashish, which is believed to have a street value of more than a million euros.
All three men have been remanded in custody pending a court appearance later today.
