Isle of Man sniffer dogs to detect mephedrone
Police sniffer dogs in the Isle of Man have been trained how to detect the drug mephedrone.

From Thursday, the drug will be illegal on the island under an amendment to the Medicines Act 2003.

Mephedrone was known as a legal high and police, who were limited in what action they could take, have welcomed the new legislation from Tynwald.

Det Insp Terry Stephen described it as one of the most dangerous drugs in circulation.
Officers from the Drug Trafficking Unit have warned UK-based suppliers who may post the drug to the island about the change in legislation.

"Mephedrone is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous drugs in circulation at the moment," said Mr Stephen.

"Some people have mistakenly believed that something that is known as a 'legal high' must be safe to use.

"Nothing could have been further from the truth as has been illustrated recently by a significant number of deaths throughout the United Kingdom which are linked to mephedrone.

Since "Isle of Man" is NOT part of the United Kingdom, is this news relevant? Is there some indication that this move will be followed by the UK? SWIM didn't even know what "mephedrone" was until a couple weeks ago when he kept seeing it on this forum and thought it was meperidine and wondered why all the new interest in demerol. LOL. This substance isn't even well known in the USA much less popular. It appears that the only way anyone can obtain it here is to order it directly from the UK and have it shipped. Obviously there are companies in the UK importing it from China and then selling it there. Its curious that if this substance is so great, that there hasn't been even the slightest interest in the USA, since if there were, it would most likely be imported directly or attempted to be reproduced here.

 While Isloe of Mann is "self governing" it is considered "british isle" and unless I am mistaken Queen Elizabeth IS the head of state. It is seperate from the UK but very tightly linked.

and both news stories here refer to the isle of man
