MEXICO CITY - The secretary of the Mexican marines says its troops have burned 119 metric tons of marijuana plants seized in the western state of Michoacan.
The military branch said in a Sunday statement that the plants were discovered on several plantations around towns in the municipality of Coalcoman, in the southwestern part of the state. It says the operation to seize and burn the drugs took six days.
There has been no information about the possible owners of the marijuana plantations.
Michoacan authorities in the past have said several drug cartels are engaged in battles for control of the state: La Familia, the Knights Templar and Jalisco Nueva Generacion
