1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

CADILLAC - A Michigan mother faces child abuse and other charges after authorities say she gave her 10- and 12-year-old sons marijuana for medical reasons.

The 31-year-old woman from the village of Mesick in the Lower Peninsula attended a pretrial conference Tuesday in 84th District Court in Cadillac. She's charged with delivery/manufacture of marijuana and two counts of third-degree child abuse.

The Associated Press isn't naming the woman to protect the identities of the children. The AP left a message seeking comment Wednesday from her lawyer.

Wexford County Prosecutor Anthony Badovinac tells the Cadillac News that the woman gave marijuana to the 10-year-old boy to help with emotional issues and to the 12-year-old to treat attention deficit disorder. Badovinac says the woman indicated she preferred that to prescribed pills.

Badovinac says police became involved after the woman told a Child Protective Services worker that she gave her children marijuana. The drug charge is punishable by up to 4 years in prison and the child-abuse charge carries up to 2 years in prison or 5 years of probation.

Michigan voters approved marijuana use for some chronic medical conditions in 2008.

Under state guidelines, emotional issues and ADHD aren't qualifying conditions for medical marijuana use. Minors can get permission to use medical marijuana, but they must have a qualifying condition and meet other rules.

A Minnesota mother has been charged with child endangerment for giving her 15-year-old son cannabis oil to manage the pain of a traumatic brain injury. A medical marijuana law there doesn't take effect until July.

My friend lives in this town and knows this woman personally. My friend is also thankful that the AP had the decency to withhold her and her children's names, as the local newspapers and news stations had no problems with releasing this information and starting a whole shit storm on Facebook over it. This is a tiny town and this whole case is a bunch of bull. CPS in this county is out of control. Cadillac is a town of 10,000 or so, and yet there is a city, county, and state police force based here. This whole thing has made my friend very angry. My friend finds it pretty neat to see her hometown county posted on this site, however crappy the reason for it may be!
