Mingo cocaine ring supplier sentenced to life in prison
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Mexican man who was convicted of supplying multiple kilos of cocaine to a Mingo County drug ring was sentenced to life in prison in federal court on ThursdayI
n June, a jury convicted Arnoldo Avitia Gamboa, 60, of being the supplier for multiple drug dealers in Mingo County and nearby parts of Kentucky.
Several convicted drug dealers, including Lorene Spry Canterbury, who was indicted with Gamboa in July 2008, said that Gamboa provided them with bricks of cocaine that bore stamps pressed into the blocks to indicate their purity.
Canterbury pleaded guilty to drug charges and was sentenced to 13 years in prison in August.
Chief U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin sentenced Gamboa, who had three previous drug convictions and another for illegally re-entering the country after having been deported, to life in prison.
