Mum hid €300k drugs in secret panel in bedroom
A mother of four has received a six-year sentence with three suspended for her role in possessing €300,000 of drugs under a secret panel in her bedroom press.
Michelle Bambrick's partner, James O'Reilly, had been arrested on other matters a week before the garda raid on her home and had advised her that someone would come to collect the drugs.
Detective Garda Diarmuid Maguire told Kerida Naidoo, prosecuting, that Bambrick (34) had already distributed a small amount of drugs to one person and was waiting on another to collect the remainder, when colleagues raided her home at Earlsfort Road, Lucan, Dublin.
Gardai found cocaine, amphetamine, MDMA and mixing agent in the bedroom and hydraulic presses in the garden shed. Bambrick showed gardai where the drugs were elaborately hidden under a bedroom press panel and broke down in the kitchen saying she didn't think her partner had been "that far" into the drugs trade.
She pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing 1.8kg of cocaine, 10,058 MDMA tablets and 425g of amphetamine worth €301,949 in her home on December 6, 2007.
O'Reilly (33), was jailed for 10 years in 2009 for his more serious role in the offence.
