Naked rampage blamed on bath salts
It was an average Sunday for people in Panama City, Florida's Plantation Point neighborhood until noon, when a naked man, allegedly high on bath salts wreaked havoc.
A flurry of 911 calls alerted authorities to the man's rampage.
30-year-old Andrew Mewbourne's outburst began in his own home with his girlfriend and small children inside.
Authorities say he left the house, running down Plantation Way nude, bloody and screaming.
"He also broke our fence down and he's sitting on our fence naked," a neighbor told a 911 dispatcher.
The rampage continued when Mewbourne allegedly smashed through a wooden privacy gate, then broke through Gail Little's bedroom window.
"My niece Sarah and I were sitting in the breakfast nook and we heard a large crash. We started towards the master bedroom where the sound came from, and then we heard a voice and we just knew instinctively that there was something very wrong and we ran," said Little.
In a matter of minutes Mewbourne tore apart everything in the bedroom.
He then moved to the bathroom and destroyed everything in there.
When he saw a deputy come into the room he jumped head first through another window and tried to run.
"He was still naked when they apprehended him in the backyard," said Captain Faith Bell of the Bay County Sheriff's Office.
Mewbourne's girlfriend told deputies he'd been taking bath salts since August 9th.
"In a pair of shorts that were in house that he had been wearing our investigators found a plastic bag which we believe contained bath salts," said Captain Bell.
Mewbourne is recovering in the hospital.
"From the amounts of blood left behind, he should be hurting pretty good about now," said Captain Bell.
He will be booked into jail upon his release.
Witnesses say Mewbourne also jumped onto a sego palm during the incident.
He is facing a number of charges, including a felony drug charge.
