IKEJA -The NDLEA had said it arrested two suspected drug traffickers with 63.1kg of narcotic concealed inside cassava paste, ‘fufu’ and a bronze cast.
Its spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, in a statement said the suspects, Uche Emmanuel, 39 and Akhabighmhe Bernard, 43, were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on May 17.
According to him, the suspects were arrested while attempting to board a South Africa flight three days after the drugs were intercepted.
The drugs consisted of 36.5kg of methamphetamine hidden inside cassava paste meant for export to Japan while the remaining 26.5kg tested positive for amphetamine and was to be exported to South Africa,’ said the statement.
It added that the associates of the suspects in the destination countries had also been arrested, and that the suspects have made confessional statements.
According to the statement, the arrest brings to 21, the number of suspected traffickers arrested by the Airport Command in May.
It explained that 19 males and 2 females were arrested with 91.3kg of narcotics consisting of 23.2kg of cocaine, 4.9kg heroin, 36.5kg methamphetamine and 26.5kg amphetamine.
