A traffic stop Sunday ended with the discovery of nearly 500 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $750,000 and two arrests, authorities said.

Members of the Central Oklahoma Metro Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop about 4 p.m. Sunday on SW 25 near S May Avenue when the driver of a pickup was seen driving at a high rate of speed, according to an Oklahoma County sheriff's news release.

“When approached, both the driver and the passenger produced fake Mexican driver's licenses,” Sheriff John Whetsel said in a statement.

Several cardboard boxes wrapped in tape were in plain sight in the backseat and bed of the pickup. A police dog was called to search the pickup alerted his handler that there were drugs in the vehicle, the news release states.

“There were a total of six boxes containing 369 packages of marijuana that weighed a total of 492 pounds,” Whetsel said.

Authorities arrested Cruz Rodriguez, 20, and Jose Pena, 17, and booked each into the county jail on a complaint of trafficking a controlled dangerous substance. The bail for each was set at $25,000.
