American party girl Paris Hilton was briefly held by police on the French island of Corsica after being caught with cannabis in her handbag, according to police sources cited Saturday by AFP.

Hilton was detained Friday after arriving at the airport in Figari on a private jet from Paris.

Police found less than a gram of cannabis in her handbag and quickly released her without charge.

According to the Corse-Matin newspaper, she was traveling on the private jet with "people close to power in Malaysia" and was due to travel by yacht to the luxury resort of Porto Cervo in Sardinia, Italy.

The incident was the American heiress' second brush with the law this month.

The 29-year-old was arrested during the World Cup in South Africa after a friend she was with took a joint to the Brazil-Netherlands quarter-final match in Port Elizabeth.

Tabloid darling Hilton, the great-granddaughter of the Hilton hotel chain's founder, shot to fame in 2003 when her boyfriend leaked a video of their sexual escapades on the internet.

Oh no, not a nickle sack of Marijuana!?!

Hardly news worthy, it's amazing what the status of celebrity can do to someone.

I concur, unfortunately some in our society enjoy vicariously living through someone elses' plastic bubble; therefore it becomes news worthy to some (not sure about these swiy's though). So I thought I'd post it more for the train-wreck sustenance in the head line than than actual news worthiness...

    Cheers!

not that i don't think one gram of weed is an ridiculous amount to gettrouble for, corsica belogs to france and france has a "zero-tolerance position on all drugs". this goes so far that you can get trouble for wearing a patch of a MJ-leaf in plain sight...

one law for them, another one for us!!! sad, but true once again

It certainly still feels that allowances made for the rich and powerful. SWIM wishes no harm on her, but believes (perhaps vainly) in social justice. Corruption exists in many places and that sense of entitlement to special justice for the few.

SWIM remembers himself and others in the past getting together to try and change the tyranny of social privilege. It didn't entirely fail, but maybe became more hidden.

The sadness comes when there's a realisation that both sides have become more covert and secretive. SWIM believes in help for all, not just people with influence.

Dunno if I agree with that. When it comes to weed, pills etc, the french police always seemed pretty liberal to swim.
He's been to and through france loads, and there's always weed and party drugs flying around.

The only time they're arseholes is at customs, but everyone's an arsehole at customs. Never try and get through customs in a knackered old car full of english teenage boys. And never leave empty containers of methadone in plain view........
    They go menthol!:crazy
