MANAGUA – Police found $220,000 in cash on a bus in northwestern Nicaragua over the weekend, Managua’s El Nuevo Diario newspaper reported on its Web site.
The money was found Sunday inside a wooden box on the unregistered bus, which was plying the Palo Grande-Somotillo route in the northwestern province of Chinandega, on the border with Honduras.
A passenger took off running when he saw police preparing to inspect the bus, leading officers to suspect that the man was transporting the money.
A police team has been sent to El Manzano, also located in Chinandega, where an abandoned plane apparently used to smuggle drugs was found, National Police spokeswoman Vilma Reyes said.
