Quebec police have shot and killed a man during a drug raid in Val-d'Or.
The shooting happened at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, as officers with the Sûreté du Québec and RCMP were conducting an operation targeting drug trafficking in the city.
"At one point, police officers during the operation had to fire a shot at a suspect that was possibly in the possession of a firearm," said Raphael Bergeron, spokesperson for the Montreal police.
A 49-year-old man was killed. Bergeron said it was not clear which police agency fired the fatal shot.
Quebec's Public Security Ministry has ordered the Montreal police to take over the investigation.
Val-d'Or is about 500 kilometres northwest of Montreal.
