Raid at Scarborough drug lab
Police raided an large Ecstasy lab in north Scarborough Wednesday morning.
The operation at 150 Milner Ave., near Markham Rd. and Hwy. 401 had been under police surveillance for some time.
Chemists specializing in dismantling clandestine drug labs joined police from Toronto and the OPP in the pre-dawn raid of the industrial unit listed on the directory as belonging to 2172264 Ontario Ltd.
Police on the scene, just west of Toronto's 42 Division station, refused to comment.
Police also raided a secondary location in north Scarborough at the same time.
Police didn't give any indication how large the lab is but if the amount of equipment brought to the scene indicates it's a large operation.
The raid was headed by the joint forces' Asian Organized Crime Task Force, Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella said.
Police said investigators believe none of the drugs the group manufactured had hit the streets yet.
Wei Ting Zhang, 46, and Yi Fai Chan, 54, both of Toronto and Yiu Chuen Chan, 54, of Markham, are charged with various drug-related offences.
While police allege the group made Ecstasy, police also seized quantities of meth and ketamine. Police raided the warehouse and three homes, two in Scarborough and one in Markham.
