Raid cops in £250k ‘ecstasy’ swoop
Around a quarter of a million pounds worth of drugs have been seized following raids in Lanarkshire.
Five people were arrested after 130,000 tablets claimed to be similar to ecstasy were recovered.
The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA), supported by Strathclyde Police, were involved in two related raids on Friday.
As part of an ongoing intelligence-led SCDEA investigation, around 30,000 tablets were recovered in Heathery Road, Wishaw.
A 37-year-old woman and two men, aged 18 and 20, were arrested.
In a second raid officers seized approximately 100,000 tablets at Oakbank Avenue, Wishaw. Two women, aged 23 and 26, were arrested.
The tablets have been chemically examined and identified as TMFPP, which is a Class C drug.
All five were expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.
Detective Chief Superintendent Allan Moffat, head of investigations group SCDEA, said: “Too many communities are affected by the fear, intimidation and violence associated with the illegal drugs trade.
“We are determined to bring those responsible to justice.”
