View attachment 17318 The RCMP's Greater Vancouver Drug Section busted a large ecstasy lab on a property in rural Abbotsford early last week.
Drug squad Sgt. Dave Goddard said four Lower Mainland residents are facing charges after they were caught trying to leave the property during the police raid.
"When you attend suspected crime scenes such as this one you never know what you are going to find," said Goddard in a press release Friday.
"Clandestine labs are notoriously dangerous for the types of chemicals used and their volatility."
After police secured an outbuilding last Monday, Health Canada crews went in and found a major, active ecstasy lab inside. It contained large quantities of chemicals including hexane, methyl hydrate, methylamine chloride, caustic soda pearls, isopropyl alcohol, solvent and hydrogen chloride.
Goddard said the toxic chemicals indicate how dangerous ecstasy can be.
"When you look at the types of chemicals that are used to manufacture drugs such as ecstasy and what their actual purpose is it is shocking," he said.
"There is no way that people should be ingesting these in any form."
