    Big haul of drugs seized

A SUSPECTED drug trafficker was arrested on Monday and various drugs about $386,000 were seized.

The drugs included ketamine, Ecstasy, 'Ice', Erimin-5, heroin and cannabis. Also seized were a Singapore-registered car and cash amounting to S$41,009, said the Central Narcotics Bureau in a statement on Tuesday night.

'This is the largest street value of drug seizure recorded so far for 2010. In terms of the seizure of specific drugs, it is also the highest seizure of Ecstasy recorded for the past three years, highest seizure of ketamine recorded for the past two years and highest seizure of Erimin-5 recorded so far for 2010,' said CNB.

Since early February, CNB had been monitoring the suspected drug trafficker, after it received information that he had obtained drugs from an overseas drug syndicate. The drugs were supplies to his Singapore clients.

On Monday, CNB was tipped off that the suspect would be receiving a fresh consignment of drugs from the overseas drug syndicate. An operation was immediately launched.

At about 9.40pm, CNB officers spotted him at a void deck in Hougang, carrying three bags. CNB officers moved in and arrested him.

From the three bags he was carrying, CNB officers found 1,900 Erimin-5 tablets, 507.60 grams of ketamine. Another 4,190.20 grams of ketamine, 256.38 grams of 'Ice', 2,186 Ecstasy tablets, 2,660 Erimin-5 tablets, 31.91 grams of cannabis, 8.53 grams of heroin, 16.04 grams of Ecstasy powder.

The cash was seized from his hideout at Hougang. Another 3 Ecstasy tablets and 30 Erimin-5 tablets were found in a car parked in front of the car park at the block.

On Tuesday, at about 2.50am, CNB raided his other hideout at MacPherson Lane and seized another 3.24 grams of ketamine, 1.28 grams of 'Ice' and 240 Erimin-5 tablets.

The 44-year-old suspect is being investigated for drug trafficking offences.

If convicted, he could face a minimum of 20 years' jail and 15 strokes of the cane, or up to 30 years jail or 15 strokes of the cane.

Hmm that's interesting because this morning SWIM was reading up on Erimin-5 (Nimetazepam) on Wikipedia and it says that there was a huge seizure of this drug back in 2003.

"how is that interesting or relevant?"

    - Geeze, harsh. It's relevant due to the large seizure of Erimin-5. However, SWIM forgot to mention that this bust was also in Singapore. It's interesting in SWIM's opinion due to the fact that this drug is so popular in Singapore. Relax.
