THE National Court has sentenced to men to seven years and six months each in prison for transporting 4.6 tonnes of hashish on a sailing ship which was intercepted in 2007.
They had been contracted by a third person to transfer the shipment to another ship at sea and head to Almerimar. He has also been sentenced to five years and two months in prison and fines of 18 million euros.
The two men, aged 27 and 38, were caught by the coast guards after picking up the drugs. The other man’s arrest was the result of an operation which ended in March 2008, after months of phone taps, when he attempted to bring drugs to shore once again.
The National Police were initially tipped off to the illegal activities of the gang by the British authorities, who identified the ship and alerted them that it was heading to Almeria.

Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.
