WOODBRIDGE — A teacher's assistant at East Jersey State Prison has been charged with having sex with inmates and bringing drugs into the prison.

Joy R. Black, 32, of Irvington was arrested at the prison on June 30 and charged with official misconduct, five counts of sexual assault and two counts of drug distribution.

Black is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set.

If convicted of the misconduct charge alone, she faces up to 10 years in prison.

Investigators found that Black had sex with five inmates in a school area inside the prison at various times between November 2009 and June of this year, authorities said.

Black also brought undisclosed amounts of marijuana and cocaine to the prison and gave the drugs to two of the inmates, authorities alleged.

Black has worked at the prison in the Avenel section of Woodbridge since June 12, 2004.
