Two weeks from graduation an Effingham county senior could end up wearing a prison jumpsuit instead of a cap and gown.
Zackary lowe is facing charges, including possession of marijuana on school property.
Five South Effingham High School students went to the hospital claiming Lowe gave them brownies laced with marijuana.
Lowe was caught by deputies with pot and alcohol on campus.
They say it’s a tough lesson for a 17 year old to learn.
“It doesn’t matter how much marijuana you have,“ explains David Ehsanipoor of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department. “If you are caught with even a small amount which would be a misdemeanor, on school grounds it’s a felony. Just a little bit of marijuana is a felony. This kid found that out the hard way. He is in jail at 17 years old and facing felony drug charges.“
Lowe’s charges are not connected to the marijuana brownies yet.
He is just considered a “person of interest” in that part of the case, as investigators gather more details.
