Student high on LSD tased outside Univ. of Central Florida library

  1. Rob Cypher
A Sunday afternoon at the campus library quickly turned violent when a man ran inside, pulled the fire alarm and began hitting students.

John Kane, a 21-year-old UCF student, was heard yelling for help outside the John C. Hitt Library.

According to the Central Florida Future, The UCF Police Department received a call at 3:14 p.m. UCF PD public information officer Courtney Gilmartin confirmed Monday that Kane told officers he had taken LSD.

Police released this footage of officers handling the incident. [...]

"He was doing exactly what we asked at first. I put him on the ground, put his hands behind his back. He was not combative," said UCF Police Supervisor Erik Lanshinsky. "As soon as I attempted to handcuff him for everybody's safety, that's when he became combative."

When Kane started fighting Officer Lanshinsky outside the library, Lanshinsky tased him in the back. Lanshinsky said it took three or four officers to get the man under control.

The man was taken to a local hospital by Orange County Fire Rescue and is currently being evaluated.

Police cleared the scene around 4 p.m. after officers and K-9 dogs made their way through the library. The library has since reopened the area has been cleared.

At this time, police do not know the victims the man hit.

A witness posted [a] video to YouTube following the incident. Please be advised, this video contains profanity.

A student who was inside the library during the incident told the Central Florida Future what she heard.

"I just heard the fire alarm go off and made my way to the nearest exit," Jessica Langley, sophomore mechanical engineering major said. "I was more just scared for myself."

Another student said he saw the same man behaving irrationally at Lazy Moon the week before spring break.

" ... That guy was super drunk and got thrown out, so he screamed, 'I'll show you a lazy moon!,' and mooned everyone through the window," said David Richards, a freshman sport and exercise science major.

It's an awful practice to taze people who are having a bad trip. It can result in serious muscle damage, not to mention worsening their condition.

But let's not get started on the awful practices of the US police....

    he's lucky nobody shot him.

doesn't sound like LSD i find when people take too much they become withdrawn, scared for the most part, either way it sounds like something you would do really drunk but who knows.

ill see what the video looks like.

that dude just kicked that cop square in the head like 3 or 4 times, i glad the cop just used his taser and didn't shoot the guy. he looked more like someone off their meds or having a mental breakdown, but i can only speak to my experience with lsd is, other people are different.

This does happen in a significant minority of bad trips but it's much rarer than the type of bad trip you describe.

I wonder if the guy took a RC on a tab thinking it was acid. I've heard that LSD is rarer to find in the US these days compared to research chemicals like the nBOMe series.

There's no reason to suspect that the guy actually took acid, regardlees
The combatitiveness during a bad trip is really only found in a minority of cases and I guess we know how much shit (and which) is sold AS LSD. To me this sounds like fake stuff.

Regardless of that, the guy is a poor guy to become tased when in a somewhat psychedelic state. I wouldn't like that too much.
Our cops would only have given him a good thrashing for "resisting".

I imagine lying on my belly with my head in some cloud and some dinosaur aliens keep kicking my ribs .. *shudder*

Anytime i had taken LSD, which was back in the 90's, i always 'felt' electricity emanating from sockets.
No obviously it was all in my head but if i put my fingers close to an electric socket i could feel a strong tingling.
I con only imagine what it must have been like to suddenly have huge amounts of electricity surging through your body while tripping. It sounds horrible.
