Suspended BSF officer nabbed with heroin again
State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) on Wednesday arrested a suspended Deputy Commandant of Border Security Force (BSF) Harpreet Singh, a resident of Hoshiarpur now residing at Tharial in Gurdaspur, and recovered a kilogram of heroin worth Rs 5 crore in the international black market from his possession. He had recently been released from Tihar jail after he was convicted for smuggling drugs from across the border.
“Harpreet Singh was caught with 23 kg of heroin in Delhi in 2005 by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). After he was convicted, he was suspended from service,” said SSOC SSP P K Rai, adding that a specially constituted police party arrested the officer near the bus stand here.
A Maruti Esteem Car was also seized, Rai said. A case under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.
